Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for classroom and clinical teaching, course planning, and other programmatic and college activities.
- 25% Directly responsible to the program coordinator for implementing the curriculum in accordance with the college policies and Professional and Occupational Standards of LSBPNE.
- Course Planning:
- Share responsibility for course planning with the program coordinator and peers.
- Participate in developing course requirements and other related materials.
- Evaluate course policies, content, teaching methods, and clinical experiences.
- Incorporate student evaluation data in course revisions.
- Review texts, audio-visual material, and computer software for use in the course.
- Collaborate with faculty to provide continuity of curriculum content.
- Classroom Teaching:
- Review literature to update teaching content.
- Utilize creative and innovative teaching methods.
- Correlate theoretical concepts with clinical practice.
- Construct test questions based on lecture objectives.
- Monitor course examinations.
- Analyze test questions for validity.
- Solicit student input at test review.
- Clinical Teaching:
- Evaluate present and potential clinical facilities.
- Meet with agency personnel to review objectives of clinical experience.
- Conduct pre and post conferences.
- Orient students to clinical facilities.
- Assign clients based on students' individual learning needs and course objectives.
- Supervise students in the clinical area.
- Assist students to develop critical thinking skills.
- Evaluate students' correlation of theoretical concepts with clinical practice.
- Maintain notations on student performance.
- Recommend specific strategies to assist students in accomplishing goals.
- Conduct evaluation conferences.
- Confer with the program coordinator regarding student progress.
- Professional:
- Participate as a member of the Practical Nursing Program Committee.
- Serve on program, division, and college committees.
- Participate in faculty business and program meetings.
- Participate in policy development at the college, school, and program level.
- Adhere to policies of college, school, program, and affiliating agencies.
- Advise students as needed/assigned.
- Demonstrate responsibility for professional growth and development.
- Report on attended workshops, meetings, and conventions or professional organizations.
- Abide by the philosophy and policies of the program and affiliating agencies.
- Collaborate with agency personnel to maintain productive relationships.
- Serve as a role model for students and colleagues.
- Demonstrate initiative and self-direction.
- Complete assignments within designated time frame.
- Maintain scheduled office hours.
- Perform all additional requested assignments.
- Discuss annual self-evaluation with the program coordinator.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an institution accredited by an authorized accrediting association recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Required Experience: Three years registered nursing experience with at least one of the three years providing direct patient care as medical-surgical staff nurse.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Unencumbered Louisiana R.N. license.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Nursing from an institution accredited by an authorized accrediting association recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Preferred Experience: Must be able to meet technical standards of the program which include lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds and standing for up to 12 hours.
Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
