Mental Health: Current Vacancies - Canon City
This position provides professional psychological services, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist until own license is obtained, to a special population of inmates with mental illness or mental problems in compliance with DOC Mental Health Clinical Standards and Procedures, DOC AR's and all relevant statutes and guidelines. Responsibilities include psychological assessment of mental health needs, individual and group therapy, clinical and behavioral management, staff assistance and training regarding the mental health needs of inmates, and direct care in psychiatric crises or emergencies. Position is responsible for regular communication with clinical and administrative supervisors. The Psychologist Candidate position prepares for Psychological licensure and participates in the 24-hour Mental Health On-Call Rotation.
Sex Offender Treatment and Monitoring Program (SOTMP): Current Vacancies - Canon City.
This position conducts assessment and psychological evaluation of sex offenders under the supervision of a licensed psychologist until own license is obtained; provides intensive treatment including development and implementation of individual treatment plans, conducts group and individual therapy, evaluations for case management, community corrections, Parole Board, and parole; conducts training workshops for the correctional system on the dynamics of sex offenders, treatment and management in a correctional setting, and high-risk behaviors; completes release planning in coordination with community parole officers and other agencies; provides crisis intervention; monitors chronically mentally ill inmates. Prepares offense-specific evaluations in accordance with Colorado Sex Offender Management Board standards for sex offenders participating in treatment. The Psychologist Candidate position prepares for Psychological licensure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant must possess a current, valid permit as a Psychologist Candidate from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners.
Special Qualifications:If appointed to a position, you have 30 days after completion of the Training Academy to apply to obtain listing with the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing behavioral health treatment within a correctional environment;
- Current listing with the Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) as a treatment provider or evaluator;
Required Competencies:
- Ability to effectively interact with and provide direct care to inmates;
- Advanced knowledge and a thorough understanding of Mental Health standards and guidelines;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across facility programs and with external agencies;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Must maintain required permit/licensure;
- Ability to read and comprehend the English language;
- Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing;
- Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind.

The Psychologist Candidate permit is a one-time registration good for 4 years to allow enough time to complete the EPPP Exam and Post-Degree Experience and Supervision. If appointed to a Psychologist Candidate position with the CDOC, you must become licensed as a Psychologist within this 4-year time period.

Conditions of Employment:

- Possess a high school diploma or GED;
- Have NO felony convictions;
- Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Successfully pass all modules of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training.
- Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics.
- Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and while on assignment.
- Must be able to see and hear to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security.
- Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury.
- Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently.
- Work in situations involving assaultive behavior and physical control of another person.
- Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner.
- Work with diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill, and emotionally disturbed inmates.
- Willing and able to travel.
- Willing and able to work various shifts.
- TB screening is required of all new employees upon hire.
Successful completion of a background investigation is required.
