Job Description:
Responsible for the training and general supervision of pharmacy staff. Oversees pharmacy facilities and processes. Monitors productivity and implements quality improvement. Ensures a positive customer service experience and that the best possible pharmacy clinical outcomes are reached.
This position will be in the Specialty/Oncology department at our Homecare Salt Lake City location. This position will work Monday - Friday from 9-6, with possible weekends and rotating holidays.
This will be a partially remote position, with working only 1 day in the office. Applicants need to live in Utah.
The Team Lead may supervise pharmacy caregivers and also practices and performs the duties of a pharmacist in accordance with job essentials detailed in pharmacist job description applicable to practice area.
Responsibilities may include overseeing and/or participating in assuring appropriate medications are prepared and delivered to care areas in a timely manner and are stored securely and in a manner appropriate for both stability and effective workflow. Supervising and mentoring technicians and other pharmacy staff working in/with area of responsibility to maintain the accuracy and quality of pharmaceutical services. Providing accurate drug information to other health professionals and patients to assure safe and appropriate use of medications.
This position acts as a subject matter expert and resource to others and may serve on committees as a resource on drugs and/or pharmacy policies as required and participate as an essential member of the multidisciplinary team to optimize individual patient medication therapy. This may include drug, dosage form, dose, route, dosage interval, and duration. Monitors physician orders to ensure safe, correct, and appropriate use of medications and monitors, documents, and evaluates patient response, drug effects, and adverse medication events.
The Team Lead actively participates in department cost savings initiatives. Monitors pharmaceutical inventory and formulary and exercises strict inventory control through diligent tracking of all substances. Participates in organization surveys (Joint Commission or other applicable regulatory agencies) or audit inspections as needed. Maintains quality in the department through completion of quality control check logs and other quality/clinical documentation and takes responsibility for assuring quality improvement projects are developed, implemented, and completed.
This position may train and supervise new caregivers – pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, student-interns, pharmacy students, and other supportive staff as needed and participates and supports the training programs and mentorship of students and residents. Is knowledgeable and compliant with pertinent state and federal laws, regulations, policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, formulary, and Clinical Practice Guidelines and uses that knowledge to provide professional, engaging customer service to all patients and healthcare providers with whom they work.
A pharmacist Team Lead has responsibility for the following as designated by the unique scope of leadership/oversight for a specified position: Responsible to teach and demonstrate positive customer service interactions, professionalism, collaborative working environments, and excellence in pharmacy practice and to mentor and hold all reporting pharmacy caregivers accountable to the same expectations. Responsible for departmental human resource functions including hiring, firing, scheduling, payroll approval, counseling, coaching, corrective actions, completing check-ins/snapshots, etc. in collaboration with pharmacy department leadership. Oversees and assures appropriate staff development and education are provided and embraced by all pharmacists on team, including topic discussions, journal clubs, continuing education presentations (unit, facility, and system), grand rounds, etc. Serves as a mentor for staff, particularly new team members, and assures competence and engagement by all members of the team. Maintains pharmacy practice responsibilities in area of oversight. Reviews, develops, implements, and assures accountability for compliance with policies and procedures, protocols, formulary and P&T decisions and processes, as well as positive working relationships with all members of the interdisciplinary team. Actively participates and develops quality, patient safety improvement projects and initiatives, engaging staff and leadership as appropriate and ensures assigned workflows and processes are delivered with high quality, safety and efficiency while employing the Intermountain Operating Model to continuously improve.
Minimum Qualifications
- Pharm D or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited university (degree will be verified).
- State license to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers if required for the role and location.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) if required for the role and location.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if required for the role and location.
- Prior experience and demonstrated competence in area of practice that falls under leadership responsibilities of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pharmacy residency, other post-graduate training, and/or board certification.
- Leadership experience.
- Participation in Advanced Clinical Pharmacist Track.
