Job Summary
Basic Function and Responsibility
The Clinical Information Analyst gathers, analyzes, and interprets data to identify opportunities for improving quality, safety, and cost in patient care settings. This position works with analytic, development, and data management staff to query, investigate, and manipulate clinical and administrative data from a variety of internal and external sources. The analyst designs and produces products to measure processes and outcomes of care, medical and disease management, physician practice patterns and case management. Analysts utilize data extraction and reporting tools such as SQL and Tableau to analyze information, summarize findings, and make recommendations. This position has a specific focus on ambulatory care within the health system. It will report to the Manager of Analytics and Informatics.
Responsibilities*
Analytics: (40%)
- Apply knowledge of data analytics, population health, and clinical information to the completion of complex assignments.
- Produce reports using data extracted from multiple sources and integrated into disparate systems.
- Translate clinical and business needs into actionable deliverables.
- Evaluate performance, utilization, quality of care and patient safety measures against results from peer institutions.
- Collaborate with physicians, administrators, analysts, and developers on metrics to assess and improve performance; evaluate results against those from peer institutions.
- Validate data quality of sources and reasonability of results prior to report delivery.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to address issues with data quality and consistency.
Reporting: (40%)
- Design reports and graphical representations of data for multiple audiences ranging from senior leaders and clinicians to the public.
- Deliver written, graphical, and verbal presentations to internal staff, clinicians, and Michigan Medicine leaders and committees.
- Investigate and report on findings and opportunities for clinical and operational improvements.
- Develop and maintain supporting documentation of measurement methods and algorithms, data sources, and reporting processes.
Data Support: (15%)
- Work with technical and analytic staff on data management activities including definition of data requirements, data capture, and data storage.
- Collaborate on the extraction and reorganization of data from existing systems for storage and reporting in departmental databases.
- Follow all appropriate data quality and security guidelines.
Other Duties: (5%)
- Develop detailed timelines and resource plans, define requirements, identify risks, create project documentation, report status to team and stakeholders, track and escalate issues.
- Contribute to automation, data quality, testing, and performance improvement efforts.
- Support committees involved with data interpretation and process improvements.
- Document processes and develop metadata to support users' understanding of deliverables.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
Required Qualifications for Senior Level
- Bachelor's Degree in a health or quantitative field (e.g. Biostatistics, Public Health, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Informatics).
- At least 5-8 years of professional experience outside of an academic program analyzing and interpreting process, clinical outcomes, and costs of care data. Knowledge of the delivery of patient care and data-driven analysis of care quality and efficacy.
Required Qualifications for Intermediate Level
- Bachelor's Degree in a health or quantitative field (e.g. Biostatistics, Public Health, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Informatics).
- At least 3 years of professional experience outside of an academic program analyzing and interpreting process, clinical outcomes, and costs of care data. Knowledge of the delivery of patient care and data-driven analysis of care quality and efficacy.

- Proficiency in the use of analytic and reporting tools such as SQL, SAS, Excel, and Tableau.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment with multiple competing tasks and priorities.
- Ability to gain proficiency in EPIC's Clarity databases and MiChart through self-study and passing a proctored exam.
- Experience with data warehouses and Business Intelligence systems.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Strong verbal, written, and visual presentation skills.
- Ability to anticipate user requests and needs and plan accordingly.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across internal functional areas and with external partners.
- Ability to work with partners at all institutional levels, from peers to clinicians to leadership.
