Overview
Fairview’s Pharmacy Internship program provides an individualized educational experience in a variety of ambulatory pharmacy settings. As a Pharmacy Intern, you will be mentored one-on-one with pharmacists to gain hands-on pharmacy experience. Our program provides the opportunity to work closely with registered pharmacists to complete activities that include direct patient care, medication therapy management, compounding medications, and participation in process improvement projects that impact the health care system.
The student role at CSC infusion pharmacy does not currently include unit dose dispensing, satellite operating room, intensive care unit pharmacy assignments, tech check tech, and code response competency.
Responsibilities
- Assist with compounding and distribution of pharmaceuticals, IV solutions, and documentation as ordered by qualified prescribers.
- Participate in team meetings/discussions with clinical pharmacy specialists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and technicians.
- Future responsibilities include:
- Oral chemotherapy monitoring of patients including in-person counseling and telemedicine.
- Counseling of patients in the infusion area about take-home medications including new anti-nausea medications or other supportive care medication.
- Project management including the possibility of IRB approved studies.
- Didactic teaching (primarily over the summer) will be provided to interns to expand knowledge base and support students in this job role.
Qualifications
Education:
- Enrollment in the first year of an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program and satisfactorily progressing toward completion of the academic requirement for the Pharm D degree.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Registered Technician with Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
