Job Description
VERTEX is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our growing Industrial Hygiene and Building Sciences practice in Columbia, MD. We are looking for people who are passionate about ensuring safe workplaces for all and have the drive to grow their careers and develop with us.
What you will be doing:
- Conduct field tasks related to Asbestos Abatement Project Monitoring and assisting with Asbestos/Lead surveys, Indoor Air Quality and Mold assessments, etc.
- Collect samples from project sites and deliver to third party laboratories for analysis – maintaining strict chain of custody.
- Enter lab results and other technical data into reports and tables.
- Provide field oversight of third-party contractors.
- Prepare detailed Asbestos Abatement closeout/clearance reports, HazMat Survey reports, Indoor Air Quality/Mold assessments, and other technical assessment reports.
- Maintain consistent communication of project progress with stakeholders.
- Maintain assessment and monitoring equipment.
- Prepare Health and Safety Plans/Job Safety Analyses for sites.
- Assist with preparation of proposals and maintain professional certifications.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in the execution of asbestos abatement oversight, asbestos and lead-based paint inspections and indoor air quality and mold assessments, including report writing and field investigation.
- AHERA Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Supervisor/Project Monitor certifications (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) or training completed to apply for the licenses at the time of application.
- Health & Safety Certifications pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and handle multiple priorities effectively under fast-paced conditions.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability/willingness for frequent regional travel for fieldwork; a valid driver’s license is required.
- Ability to walk job sites and climb ladders during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain, and carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity.
Additional Information
The projected hiring range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 for a person who meets the requirements.
