We are looking for a Charge Nurse to provide direct and indirect patient care in the Med Surg Unit. The Charge Nurse will communicate with physicians, Nurse Supervisor, and co-workers about changes in the patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. The Charge Nurse is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
Salary Range: $42.74 - $56.96
Hours: 10 Hour Nights
Required Skills:Minimum Education & Experience
- Completion of an accredited registered nursing program.
- Two years of acute care experience preferred.
- One year of relief/full-time Charge Nurse experience preferred.
Required License/Certification
- Current California Registered Nursing license.
- ACLS Certificate.
- BLS Certificate.

Essential Functions
- Coordinates activities with other patient care units.
- Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
- Coordinates daily staff assignments.
- Assumes the responsibility for administrative and operational functions of the Inpatient Services Unit in the absence of the Manager of Inpatient Services.
- Acts as a resource person within our department and throughout the organization.
- Acts as a mentor to staff.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform interventions and provide services to the level of licensure as defined by the Nurse Practice Act of the Board of Registered Nursing of California.
- Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, geriatric, and the general patient population.
- Ability to revise the plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate the overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients' needs.
- Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
- Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
- Communicates with Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding both in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
- Interacts professionally with patients/families and involves patients/families in the formation of the plan of care. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
