Location
Our client is located in Yemassee, a small Low Country town located just under 30-minutes from Beaufort, South Carolina. Named as one of South Carolina’s “Best Small Towns to Live In,” Beaufort is rich in history and culture, home to pristine natural environment, and award-winning educational systems. Engulf yourself in the history of the city by visiting museums and historical mansions in the downtown historic district. Their group of professionals working in AAALAC accredited facilities are highly qualified and carefully trained to complete the job for those who are counting on them. You would have the opportunity to work hands-on at one of the largest research facilities in the US committed to conducting humane research advancing their knowledge in primate biology and addressing human health concerns. What You’ll Be Working On
- Oversee all aspects of colony health
- Provide clinical veterinary care, examination, treatment, surgery, and follow-up for colony primates
- Provide emergency and weekend on-call veterinary medical coverage
- Perform bi-annual physical exams on colonies
- Develop surgical skills with minor procedures
- Conduct bi-annual physical examinations for primates
- Maintain records of work performed and observations of colony behaviors
- Review animals care protocols and serve as a member of animal care and use committees
- Effectively train and manage veterinary technicians
- Communicate with Managers and Directors about colony needs
- Assist in developing and implementing personnel health and safety policies
- Be up for the wild card! Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited school required
- Licensed or able to become licensed in the state of South Carolina
- Ability to acquire DEA Licensure
- 3 - 5 yrs laboratory research experience preferred; new graduates are encouraged to apply!
- Ability to work rotating weekends for virtual on-call support
- Experience or interest in the non-human primate is a PLUS!
- Management experience is preferred but not required
- Demonstrated commitment to providing a high level of care and service
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Team player with a passion for mentoring and working with others
