Position #1 - Monday-Friday, starting between 6:00am and 9:00am, ending between 3:00pm and 5:30pm (5 8-hour days). Rotating weekends and holidays with on-call.
Position #2 - Full time: 30-40 hours/week (or part time hours available-24 hours/week). Once training is complete (during the day shift), the regular schedule would include Sunday (from approximately 7:30 am-4 p.m.) and Monday through Thursday from approximately 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. (part time would include Sunday from approximately 7:30 am-4 p.m and two evening shifts during the weekday from 1:30 p.m -10 p.m.)
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- 80% - The Clinical Lab Support Specialist reviews test results for accuracy and identifies results that require additional review. When indicated, confers with a Medical Technologist and/or recommends verification processes and/or review of results by a Clinical Pathologist. Special attention to safety practices and attention to detail in a Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory is required to maintain a safe work environment for technologist and other members of the hospital team. Performs data entry of routine and specialized testing. Performs inventory and purchases lab supplies. Refers test to reference labs using appropriate shipping regulations.
- 10% - Training: The Clinical Laboratory Support Specialist will assist VMC Clinicians, staff, and students in requesting diagnostic testing on the Laboratory Information System and the Hospital Information System.
- 10% - Specialty Projects: Under the supervision of a Medical Technologist, performs tasks related to diagnostic testing and research.

Bachelor's Degree (in Natural Science/Biology, preferred) or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.

The Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) has served the community for more than a century. It is the most advanced, full-service referral care center for large and small animals in Minnesota. The VMC sees more than 35,000 cases annually, with specialists available in all areas of medicine and surgery. More than 50 of the veterinarians on staff have undergone several years of additional training to become board-certified specialists in a particular area of veterinary medicine.
The Veterinary Medical Center is comprised of the Small Animal Hospital for dogs, cats, and other companion animals, the Piper Clinic at the new Leatherdale Equine Center, for horses, and the Large Animal Hospital, which treats farm animals, and occasionally, zoo animals.
