Registered Nurse – Per Diem position (Day Shift available)
The Nurse is in charge of the unit activities for each shift. The Nurse supervises the Milieu Coordinators and Mental Health Technicians, administers prescribed medications, and provides medication and other educational groups on the shift.
Essential Job Duties:
- Completes and documents comprehensive nursing assessment within 8 hours of patients’ admission.
- Identifies patient’s needs, problems, capabilities, and limitations that are supported by the recorded assessment data and reflect knowledge of the arts and sciences with particular emphasis on biophysical and psychosocial sciences.
- Interacts therapeutically with residents.
- Acts as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in planning care by providing input to the treatment team process. Plans continuity of patient care with other members of the healthcare team.
- Utilizes psychotherapeutic interventions to assist patients in regaining or improving their previous coping abilities and to prevent further disability.
- Provides patient and family teaching if needed and in-group settings (nurse education groups; 1:1 with patient and patient family).
- Documents administration of medications according to established policies and procedures.
- Has basic understanding of Common Psychiatric Diagnoses. Can recognize behaviors associated with Common Psychiatric Diagnoses. Evaluates and demonstrates for age-specific behaviors, motor skills, and psychological norms.
- Demonstrates Service Excellence with Internal & External Customers.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Years of experience needed: Prefer one (1) year experience as a Registered Nurse. Prefer six (6) months in psychiatric nursing. Knowledge of current nursing procedures, the nursing process, medications, and their correct administration.
- License/Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida. Current CPR Certification required.
- Skills: Demonstrate leadership, communication, teaching, and management skills.
- Physical Requirements: Work is physically and mentally demanding. Extensive walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs. Must be able to lift over fifty (50 lbs.) pounds.
