The Director of Billing is responsible for the coordination of billing functions for a division of Traditions Health in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations. The Director of Billing reports to the Vice President of Revenue Cycle.
Job Qualifications
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Finance, Accounting, and other related field or equivalent applicable experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years leading teams of people in a management role.
- Minimum of 5 years working with billing claims, denials, and insurance authorizations for commercial payers, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Home Health/Hospice experience – preferred.
- Prior experience with HomeCare HomeBase or other EMR – preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong experience in change management and the ability to build from the ground up. Transformational in approach while driving a focus on performance improvement.
- Proven ability to influence business partners, lead change, and work collaboratively with all levels in the organization to accomplish goals.
- Skilled in time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Highly organized with the capacity to manage work and priorities autonomously.
Transportation:
Reliable transportation. Valid and current auto insurance.
Environmental and Working Conditions:
Works in a routine office environment. Noise level may be moderate. Ability to work a flexible schedule with extended hours. Ability to travel locally with some exposure to inclement weather. Must have reliable transportation, valid and current driver’s license and auto insurance.
Physical and Mental Effort:
Prolonged sitting and some standing is required. Occasional need to lift, pull, carry and push items weighing up to 25 lbs. Frequent need to stoop, kneel, and reach while accessing files. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and agency needs. Requires excellent problem-solving skills.
Essential Functions:
- Works closely with Vice President of Revenue Cycle to monitor financial operations specific to accounts receivable, cash collections, denials, appeals, and controllable loss to ensure optimal revenue cycle performance.
- Collaborates with the branch management and office support staff to develop and implement plans to ensure billing functions are aligned with company goals.
- Recruits, develops, motivates, manages, and retains a high-performing revenue cycle infrastructure. Makes adequate training programs available to support staff performance.
- Minimize bad debt, improve cash flow, and effectively manage accounts receivable.
- Increase productivity by developing automated reporting/forecasting tools and streamlining processes.
- Responsible for the oversite of the division’s Nursing Home payables to include, verification of previously billed Medicaid claims, and verification of payment to ensure proper payment. Ensure timely payment of facility claims.
- Set an example in delivering excellence with reports, presentations, and other supporting materials to inform and make recommendations appropriately at all levels.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, organization, and department policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to the above.
