POSITION GOAL
To promote optimum health status and lifestyles for all students through the joint efforts of the home, school, and community. To maintain and/or improve school health services by monitoring and evaluating a Comprehensive School Health Program, and to provide clinical nursing supervision.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Clinical Nursing Supervisor – School Health Programs, Agency Nursing, Medically Fragile shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below:
- Evaluate nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards as set forth in the guidelines of the Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Board of Nursing and School Board Policies.
- Apply appropriate nursing theory as the basis for decision making in the school setting:
- Demonstrate knowledge of nursing theory by sharing information with peers, students, family, staff, other professional and the community to assist with the change.
- Demonstrate application of nursing theory by use of most recent techniques and information which govern actions.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program following the guidelines of the Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Board of Nursing and School Board Policies:
- Consult with school administration to establish, review, and revise procedures for comprehensive school health program which follows federal, state and local statutes and regulations.
- Assist in training, supervising, and evaluating Broward County School Board nurses. However, affected principals who hire school nurses shall be responsible for evaluating non-clinical nursing duties and performance at the school location.
- Determine extent of orientation, amount and type of supervision needed to comply with the Nurse Practice Act, and other legal considerations.
- Contribute to the development of health programs for students using the nursing process.
- Collaborate with other professionals in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and other school health services. − Participate as a team member:
- Act as advocate for the student and family when appropriate.
- Coordinate efforts with those of other providers and school personnel to decrease duplication of care.
- Promote preventive self-care strategies with school personnel.
- Participate in evaluation to assure quality of health service provided for students and assume responsibility for continuing education and professional development and contribute to the professional growth of Broward County School Board nurses:
- Will act as a resource in matters of school health and nursing practice.
- Will provide clinical supervision in matters of school health by on-site visits to Broward County schools.
- Participate with other members of the community to assess, plan, implement and evaluate school health services and community services that include the broad continuum of promotion of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention:
- Participate in planning for school health services within the community.
- Provide coordination with existing systems and services.
- Provide personal self-growth through participation in continuing education programs and goal setting activities.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
OR
• An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
AND
• Licensed Registered Professional nurse in the State of Florida.
• Valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Certificate and updated according to American Heart Association Standards.
• Computer skills as required for the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree majors include Nursing, Nursing Education, or related field.
- Experience in pediatrics or school health.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
