Description
- Provides professional nursing care for patients on assigned nursing units, in accordance with established statutes, standards and practices.
- Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care.
- Utilizes all resources in the initial assessment of patient needs, including biophysical, psychosocial, cultural, environmental, discharge planning, self-care, and education.
- Performs a reassessment each shift, upon transfer or discharge, and more frequently as necessary.
- Practices universal precautions, infection control, and isolation procedures. Maintains accurate and concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and patient responses.
- Participates in discharge planning; upon discharge ensures that a written teaching/discharge plan has been developed for assigned patients, including disease process, complications, medications, diet, physical activity, and self-care needs.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the role of all health care providers to appropriately meet the needs of the patient.
- Demonstrates the ability to make effective nursing judgments in routine and emergency situations.
- Other roles and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Licensed and current registration in the state of Illinois.
- Current CPR certification.
- Clinical experience preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to initiate a nursing plan of care and identify appropriate nursing interventions and evaluations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of the Nursing Process and strong nursing practice skills, including physical assessment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in clinical and technical skills specific to the assigned department.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is of medium to heavy demand.
- Routine lifting requirements of a minimum of more than 50 pounds.
- Stands and walks for most of the shift.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, sitting, bending, and reaching required.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases.
- Works inside.
