VA Northern California Health Care System Stockton CA VA Clinic
Seeking Staff Geriatrician for Geriatrics Program:
Northern California has much to offer to those seeking good weather and an abundance of outdoor activities whether you prefer the beaches of San Francisco or the mountains and snow of Lake Tahoe. If you are interested in work/life balance, research, or academics, you will find that working for the VA offers many benefits, not to mention the great honor we have in serving our nation's heroes.
The Geriatrics Section is organizationally aligned under the Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) Service. The Staff Geriatrician will serve elderly Veterans with various complex geriatric medical conditions and dementia, needing an interdisciplinary specialty-based consultation, evaluation, and management, as well as lead the management of a proportional panel of geriatric primary care patients. These patients are complex, needing specialty interdisciplinary Geriatrics expertise, and frequently at high risk of frequent hospital re-admissions and Emergency Department visits due to multiple comorbidities or prolonged hospitalization. Veterans are evaluated and managed by a core interdisciplinary team consisting of a Geriatrician (MD, DO), Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Dietician, Pharmacist, and Social Worker, as well as specialists in Neurology, Psychology, Psychiatry, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy, integrated with the Geriatrics team.
The physician will lead the Interdisciplinary Geriatrics team in the East Bay based at Stockton, CA to achieve the Service's mission and goals. The Staff Geriatrician will report to the Medical Director of Geriatrics Section, under Geriatrics and Extended Care Service, and will share on-call responsibilities with other Geriatricians in the section. Opportunities for academic affiliation and research activities are available and encouraged.
