ADULT EDUCATOR – SPANISH ADULT SECONDARY EDUCATION (ASE) LANGUAGE ARTS
WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE
The Adult Education Department of Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks a part-time Adult Educator with a passion for teaching and learning along with a strong commitment to the mission and ideals of the community college. This position works a part-time schedule and is responsible for providing instruction in Language Arts to students enrolled in the Adult Education program by engaging in and modeling intellectual curiosity. The position requires a passion for teaching and learning and utilization of highly effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs. Performs related duties, as required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides Spanish Adult Secondary Education (ASE) Language Arts instruction that supports students in meeting the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for that course.
- Uses City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Adult Education core materials designed for each course, including those in the Learning Management System, such as BrightSpace.
- May customize instruction with supplemental materials, as appropriate.
- Uses City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Adult Education course master syllabus to customize syllabus for each class.
- Shares and discusses syllabi with students to ensure understanding of course expectations.
- Conducts formal and informal assessments to measure student progress toward SLOs and adjusts instruction based on ongoing student assessments.
- Takes attendance, monitors class enrollment and retention, submits grades, and enters information into the appropriate student system in a timely manner.
- Complies with Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) professional development requirements, including completing 12 required professional development (PD) hours each fiscal year.
- Assists with program registration and orientation, as requested.
- Attends and participates in staff development and program staff meetings, as required.
- Keeps abreast of state and federal rules and regulations regarding Adult Education policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university required, preferably in Adult Education, Education, Elementary or Secondary Education, English, and/or Reading.
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related subject: Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Education, Educational Policy, Elementary or Secondary Education, English, Literacy Studies, Reading, or Teaching preferred.
- International degree(s) evaluated by a certified provider.
- Teaching and/or tutoring experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Some proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook).

- Resume reflecting knowledge of current adult education classroom assessment techniques.
- Transcript(s) reflecting sufficient subject-relevant coursework to teach the assigned course. (Unofficial transcripts initially accepted; official transcripts must be provided during the hire process.)
- Sample lesson plans, syllabi, and/or teaching portfolio that reflect skills in area(s) of instruction, including computer literacy and adult learning practices.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Seeking candidate(s) to teach in-person classes at Wilbur Wright College main campus, Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center (HPVEC), and/or local off-site locations.
- Ability and willingness to travel between Wilbur Wright College, Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, and various local off-site locations, as needed.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Morning classes are typically scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. Evening classes are typically scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. During a term, classes are scheduled for 16-week, 12-week, and 8-week sessions.
Instructor assignments are determined based on student need as determined by enrollment as well as instructor availability, interest, and subject matter expertise.
