Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Pathologist Assistant to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. The Hospital is part of NYC Health + Hospitals. South Brooklyn Health is a redesigned health care campus featuring the new 11-floor Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital which provides emergency care, modern labor & delivery suites, and state-of-the-art surgical services. The new Health & Wellness Institute offers outpatient services—from primary and preventive care to specialty services for children and adults—all designed to keep our community healthy and accommodates more than 250,000 outpatient visits, more than 89,000 emergency room visits, and with 371 beds, more than 15,000 inpatient admissions annually. Responsibilities
- Assure correct accessioning of all surgical specimens, especially cassettes with tissues during grossing.
- Maintenance of Cryostat, reagents and supplies for grossing room, as well as the room's cleanliness.
- Assist in certain specialized procedures or projects and other required functions.
- Maintain orderly storage of surgical and autopsy specimens as well as discarding specimens.
- Assist in releasing and viewing deceased in the morgue.
- QA/QC/PI in frozen section/grossing room and record maintenance.
- Perform recordkeeping and documentation of Quality Control.
- Ensure proper disposal of medical waste and chemicals; handles spills clean-up.
- Assist pathologists with frozen/grossing of specimens when required. Maintain frozen section stain set up and monitor expiration dates.
- Assist pathologists with any other required functions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience, of which a minimum of two years have been spent working in the designated laboratory specialty as a gross prosecutor in a clinical laboratory having a medical director.
- Detail oriented with excellent communication skills.
