JOB SUMMARY:
Performs pre-operative tasks such as room preparation, equipment testing and case set-ups. Performs inter-operative duties anticipating needs of procedure physician or nurse, collecting specimens and documentation and obtaining/providing reports. Assists with room turnover including returning supplies, instruments and equipment to correct locations and checking stock each shift.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pre-operative Duties:
- Assist with room preparation
- Tests operational efficiency of equipment prior to use
- Sets up case in a timely and orderly manner
- Intra-operative Duties:
- Maintains aseptic/sterile technique
- Anticipates additional needs of the procedure physician
- Scrubs procedures in his/her specialty independently
- Obtains and gives report to relief person
- No errors in documentation or specimen collection
- Post-operative Duties:
- Assists with room turnover
- Returns instruments to decontamination room in appropriate manner
- Assists in returning supplies and equipment to the correct location
- Assists in checking and restocking assigned procedural suites by the end of shift
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED. Prior clinical experience in caring for patients required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical or Cardiovascular Technician Program is preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:
BLS requirement
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knows clinical standards and practices guidelines in accordance with the applicable professional governing body.
- Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:
- Internal: Requires close interaction with other ancillary departments in order to facilitate a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care
- External: Patients and their family
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
Must be physically fit. Works requires walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and transporting of patients. Standing and walking is required most of the time on duty. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Proficient talking and hearing to converse with patients and staff members in procedure rooms. Near visual acuity for reading of gauges and monitors.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a well-lighted, ventilated building. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is of high risk. Must work with hazardous chemicals when sterilizing scopes and instruments. Hours of duty may be irregular with covering various shifts.
