UIC is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Simulation and Integrative Learning) to join our College of Medicine, Medical Education team. This role will create and maintain a climate of technical and professional excellence supporting the work of the SAIL. Provide technical expertise in all IT areas for the Simulation and Integrative Learning Institute (SAIL).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Make recommendations and be proactive in resolving current and potential IT problems. Responsible for installation, maintenance and support of the SAIL Technology Infrastructure on multiple levels including training and supervision of desktop support students and staff. Maintain, update and troubleshoot: video and database servers, a Complex AV system comprising 25 rooms; wireless system and devices; and simulation hardware and software.
- Act as the main contact person for CAE support trouble case ticketing system. Systems include: CAE Learning Space servers with network cameras and audio interfaces, CAE and Laerdal mannequin hardware and software, CAE video storage server support, Large Screen Monitor technical support. Identify, research, and resolve technical problems, including on-the-spot solutions to time-sensitive issues including support issues related to the Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Support virtual meeting applications, i.e., Zoom and similar desktop applications. Develop creative solutions to unusual technology issues associated with simulation and the use of mannequins. Support applications on the network; troubleshoot data communication, connectivity and wireless audio visual systems. Communicate effectively with external University Institutional Network support groups and internal non-tech users.
- Setup, maintain, and update Servers, Simulation and A/V systems. Install software and hardware on network and video conference systems. Set up includes learning and then training employees in the use of the new software and systems. Conduct testing and evaluations of new and existing technology with an eye toward efficiency, performance improvement and ease of use for end users.
- Create systems and back-up procedures to ensure that the SAIL operations, programs and testing are failsafe. Troubleshoot data communication, connectivity and hardware/software issues for staff and SAIL systems including understanding and resolving application use problems that will maintain seamless transitions between programs and during day-to-day operations. Serve as liaison between employees and vendors by communicating with vendors on installations, problems, and resolutions.
- Document end-user procedures; create and maintain documentation of new applications and application changes; write reports, memorandums and instructional manuals; document operating system and application configurations.
- Anticipate and analyze needs for new functions and software applications and recommend changes to existing functions and software applications. Recommend modification to third party software to meet end user needs as needed, all of which will contribute to and maintain a high-reliability operation.
- Manage day-to-day operation and perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study.
- Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience within IT Support Services which includes demonstrated experience providing end-user technical and troubleshooting support with computer hardware, software and classroom technologies within desktop and networking environments via telephone, ticketing systems and/or onsite resolution.

- Master's Degree
- Certification: A+ and/or MCP
- Microsoft Certified Professional
