JOB SUMMARY:
The Unit Receptionist/Patient Care Technician (UR/PCT) will have the opportunity to perform clerical duties and facilitate the smooth functioning of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, this role assists the staff nurse with specific patient activities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes all necessary forms, requisitions, communications and special projects as assigned.
- Accurately transcribes physicians' orders.
- Acts as a central communication resource at the nursing station for all patient care activities.
- Maintains excellent customer service and patient confidentiality.
- Accurately inputs and retrieves data.
- Initiates, maintains, replaces, or completes various clerical forms, reports, supplies, etc.
- Assists patients and nurses as necessary with ADL, Vital Signs, and patient Plan of Care.
- Assists patients and nurses with lifting and positioning, using proper body mechanics.
- Functions in role of Constant Attendant and responds to Resusci-team page and Crisis Team page when directed by Nurse Director/designee.
- Transports (or assists with transport) of patients to other units or departments as necessary.
- Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Strong organizational ability; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent customer service attitude.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proactive approach.
- Flexibility in performing personal work while assisting others with requests; ability to re-prioritize work adjusting to changing assignments.
- Ability to perform well under pressure.
- Demonstrates the proper handling of confidential medical information; strong work ethic.
- Professional communication skills, both oral and written.
QUALIFICATIONS: - High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Upon hire, a current CNA certification, or completion of one year of clinical experience in an accredited RN nursing program, or EMT-B, or equivalent (i.e., documented/verified years of acute care hospital experience as a CNA) is required.
- Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire is required.
- Experience in clerical or receptionist position preferred.
- Previous experience in an acute care environment preferred.
