Responsibilities
- Identification and Assessment
Performs professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment in support of patients with alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis. Conducts evaluations of Soldiers, family members, retirees, and eligible Federal civilian employees referred for consultation. Counsels patients on primary and secondary illnesses. Integrates information to formulate accurate diagnostic impressions consistent with established criteria. Advises commanders and supervisors as to patient's status, treatment needs, and prognosis. Collects data to evaluate treatment outcomes. - Treatment and Rehabilitation
Assumes primary responsibility of case management for patients. Develops treatment plans that incorporate psychological theory and counseling techniques. Provides strategic interventions, motivational interviewing techniques, and crisis counseling for patients and families. Conducts individual, group, and family psychotherapy. - Case Management and Documentation
Implements complex treatment plans, arranging for required services with other providers. Documents case findings, diagnoses, and recommendations in a clear manner. Performs qualitative and quantitative analyses of pertinent data for evaluation of patient progress. - Consultation, Training, and Education
Develops and implements orientation and training for patients, medical staff, and community personnel. Provides training and/or supervision for graduate students and other healthcare professionals. Consults with commanders to improve identification and referral procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below:
Basic Requirements for Counseling Psychologist:
Degree: Two full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing comprehensive evaluations to patients; developing or implementing treatment plans; and providing individual, group, and/or family professional counseling.
Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted master's level counseling/psychologist license from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs.
