Position Summary
The RN, Registered Nurse 8-Hr provides safe, cost-effective patient care through the health experience, according to established standards utilizing the nursing process, within the scope of practice of Registered Nursing, for the Nightengale Infusion Center at MemorialCare Miller Children's and Women's. Our infusion center is a multispecialty infusion clinic open Monday through Saturdays. The Nightengale Infusion Center at Miller Children’s is a dedicated area just for patients who need intravenous (IV) therapy. Most of the patients who use the infusion center are children and adolescents with cancer and other serious blood disorders, who need to come back to the hospital on a regular basis for chemotherapy treatment or blood transfusions. This is an ideal setting for patients and their families, who are receiving therapy and treatment because the patient does not have to stay overnight in the hospital.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:
- Meets population specific competencies.
- Documentation is completely accurate and timely and reflects patients’ plan of care.
- Provides leadership and clear direction to all members of the healthcare team to support the plan of care while maintaining the responsibility and accountability for the management of patient care.
- Provides for the psycho-social, spiritual, and cultural needs to patients, families, and significant others.
- Demonstrates continued development of clinical expertise and current knowledge of healthcare trends and education related to nursing practices.
- Participates in processes that improve standards of care and practice in the delivery of nursing service.
- Supports sustainment of the magnet culture.
- Possesses knowledge of job specific competencies in the oncology unit.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
- Completion of pre-employment drug screening.
- Completion of pre-employment criminal background reference check.
- Completion of pre-employment health evaluation including TB screening, and annual or bi-annual re-evaluation as indicated by Employee Health.
- The RN must be able to comply with every other weekend work commitment as well as be available to work and be scheduled any day of the week.
- One-year minimum experience in a pediatric hospital preferred.
- The ideal candidate will have one-year minimum nursing experience in pediatric ambulatory infusion and/or pediatric hematology/oncology acute care setting.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Current CA RN license
- BSN required or experienced RN in an accredited BSN program.
- A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- A current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required.
- The ideal candidate will be APHON/CPHON Chemotherapy Biotherapy Provider certified.
