Overview
Our DH ED is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state with 31K patients seen annually in our 33 bed unit. Patients range from neonates through geriatric populations and various states of health, often times with multiple diseases processes.
Our ED Team is staffed by RN's, LPN's, Paramedics, EMT's and LNA's.
Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the operational, fiscal and personnel activities to ensure the provision of high quality, safe patient/family centered care 24 hours a day. Advocates for and allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care.
Our successful ED UNM will be team oriented with 3-5 years of leadership experience.
Responsibilities
- Manages the hiring process to meet anticipated staffing needs.
- Plans adequate staffing and adjustments in alignment with patient volume and clinical needs.
- Evaluates and manages the performance of staff members, to include coaching and the performance management processes.
- Manages the matrix relationships, including but not limited to providing input and feedback to Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Clinical Nurse Leaders assigned to the practice area, to ensure clinical competency of staff, quality of patient/family centered care and professional development of clinical staff.
- Identifies opportunities for best practices and continued improvement and oversees implementation of such practices.
- Responsible for operationalizing best practices in team care coordination.
- Proactively assesses safety risks and promotes and models a culture of safety.
- Manages staff and processes to achieve outcomes and organizational goals in regard to clinical quality, patient safety, and patient experience.
- Manages the operational budget for the unit. Monitors patient revenues and expenses and operational expenses and provides required reports to administration.
- Ensures that unit facilities and equipment meet necessary standards and monitors utilization of equipment.
- Facilitates the work of the Professional Nursing Organization, including facilitating the Practice Area Council. Coaches clinical nurses in professional development and engagement in the Program for Advancing Clinical Excellence (PACE) credentialing program.
- Assures that Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory standards are met in the clinical area. Assures that evidence-based practice and nursing practice standards are achieved in the clinical area.
- Assumes accountability for maintaining a safe work environment in alignment with Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s commitment to employee safety and regulatory requirements including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and applicable state and federal law.
- Supports and/or participates in clinical research programs in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
- Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Supervisory and/or management experience required.
- 5 years of progressive responsibility within an acute care setting required.
- Must obtain and maintain clinical competencies within assigned unit.
- Clinical or professional certification preferred.
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse with New Hampshire eligibility.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or higher per unit specific requirements.
