Position Summary
The specialty technician will provide safe and appropriate pharmacy services to patients in the outpatient pharmacy according to regulatory guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Transcription of new prescriptions to patient profile
- Confirm patient demographics are accurate and insurance information is correct
- Ensure correct third party adjudication of specialty medications
- Initiate prior authorizations for specialty medications and work with providers on completion
- Communicate with nurses and patients about prescription order status and provide updates accordingly
- Identify patient foundation assistance and manufacturer copay assistance programs
- Communicate copays with patients before ordering medications
- Make sure that specialty medications with existing PAR levels are appropriately stocked
- Notify patient when medication is available for pickup and/or schedule delivery
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma and active DC Pharmacy Technician license is required.
- 2 or more years college training is desirable, Pharmacy Technician certification is preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of verified experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail, nursing home, medical center or hospital pharmacy is required.
- 1 year or more of specialty pharmacy experience is preferred.
