The Business Strategy & Execution Director will work across Carelon businesses to improve the success of key initiatives related to the organization’s product strategy. The Director will bring strong program management skills and a track record of working through ambiguity in a complex, multi-stakeholder corporate environment that requires deep relationships and consensus building. In this role, the Director will support senior leadership by establishing strong up-front program design, transparent success criteria, clear guiding principles, and strong governance/escalation structures.
The Director will be part of the Product Delivery Center of Excellence which is nested within Carelon’s Product and Customer Success organization. Comprised of experienced professionals with a proven track record of execution excellence, the team provides expertise and/or direct support to all Carelon’s businesses with health offerings to our Health Plan Clients that span Utilization Management, Specialty Benefits Management, Payment Integrity, Advocacy, Health Plan Subrogation, Behavioral Health, Health Solutions, and Pharmacy. Engagements include new product development, capability migration or expansion, and operating model design. The role can work in a hybrid way from any US Elevance Health corporate work location and the internal job title is Business Strategy Plan Director.
How you will make an impact:
- Supports complex, high-profile initiatives (at times multiple initiatives concurrently) at the direction of the VP of Product and Customer Success
- Provides direct consulting support and staffing for strategic initiatives, projects, project teams and/or external consultants
- Translates strategy into defined tactics, programs/projects priorities, and timelines to turn strategy into reality
- Facilitates or leads discovery sessions with business unit and product teams to define strategy, scope, and success criteria of key initiatives
- Collaborates with multiple functional areas and stakeholders to develop and maintain an execution plan to ensure the successful completion of an initiative
- Translates complex, technical information into presentation-friendly formats, including graphical displays, to a wide variety of internal and external executive audiences
- Designs, builds and facilitates VP+ executive steering committees and working sessions
- Builds and leverages relationships to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems
- Identifies and proposes opportunities to improve initiative’s results based on continuous monitoring and needs assessments
- Propagates execution methods, techniques, or approaches that improve execution confidence and reduce risk
- Supports the internal operations of the Product Delivery Center of Excellence by following defined operating model processes, creating/updating standard templates and artifacts, supporting other directors in the execution of their initiatives, etc.
Requires a BA/BS degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of related experience including prior leadership experience and 3 to 5 year strategic planning; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
- Prior strategy or management consulting experience at firms such as PwC, Deloitte, Accenture, E&Y, Bain & Company, BCG, etc and Master’s degree preferred
- Healthcare domain experience on the payor or provider side preferred
- Program/project set-up, advisory, governance, and management experience
- Developing and delivering Executive-level communications, as all internal clients are sVP+ Leaders
- Ability to travel
