Summary
Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the patient registration/demographic information obtained during each patient encounter. Responsible for collection of copays/deductibles as identified. Ensures the completion of all documents required at point of patient access. Assists management team with identifying and problem solving areas of improvement needed.
Responsibilities
- In the absence of Supervisor/Manager adjusts department staffing.
- Implements problem solving and initiates follow up for identified problems. Reports issues to Manager.
- Acts as resource and facilitator in assisting staff in their evaluation and assessment of patient needs.
- Recognizes and effectively resolves conflicts as appropriate. Communicates with department supervisor/manager of issues.
- Demonstrates positive attitude with regard to changes in organizational and department initiatives.
- Assures availability of supplies and equipment.
- Facilitates and maintains an orderly, professional working environment.
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
- Provides input to manager for staff evaluations as requested.
- Ensures the accuracy of all patient encounter information (demographics/insurance) with a 97% accuracy to meet standard and 99% accuracy rate to exceed standard.
- Ensures that current authorizations are in place for scheduled patients at point of patient arrival.
- Ensures that 99% of patient share of cost identified by pre-service staff are collected.
- Follows hospital protocol for handling of uninsured patients.
- Maintains working knowledge of downtime procedures.
- Ensures patients have signed all necessary paperwork, and insurance information has been obtained.
- Ensures all documentation is noted in ADT system.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of all hospital IT systems necessary to accomplish daily tasks.
- Assesses and troubleshoots problems with patients, referring physicians and their staff.
- Demonstrates ability to provide and facilitate excellent customer service in all situations.
- Acts as a mentor for new employees.
- Participates with all performance improvement initiatives as requested.
- Demonstrates openness to new procedures and provides constructive recommendations to Supervisor(s).
- Meets annual requirements for position.
- Maintains working knowledge of dealing with all hospital emergency response CODES.
- Attends no less than 75% of all department and/or organizational meetings.
- Assists Department Supervisor with utilization of a patient access float pool.
- Throughout the day, makes decisions to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Participates in new hire interviews and makes recommendations for hire.
- Assists with development of staff schedules.
- Demonstrates support of the hospital's leadership by following the chain of command in resolving issues.
- Super User for all systems related to the department.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The specifications listed below are representative of the education and experience as well as knowledge, skill and ability required:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum three years work experience in a patient access role.
- If work experience is at CTH, employees must have satisfactory work performance on all areas of last two (2) performance evaluations and have no disciplinary actions within the last twelve (12) months.
