Job Title: Research Technician, Form and Space

Work Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours per week | regular business hours, evenings
Hourly Rate: $23.49

General purpose:The Form and Space Research Technician assists with the general operations of the Form and Space Studio; supports fall and spring instruction and student use of the Form and Space Studio following campus protocols; supports research in the studio; and has access to the facility to pursue individual research outside of work hours.
Summary of Essential Functions
- Assist with the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Form and Space Studio, ensuring that all equipment operates effectively and safely, and supplies are stocked and available.
- Assist with supervising students using fabrication equipment and facilities in the Form and Space Studio.
- Serve as an educational resource and support Undergraduate students regarding related processes of Form and Space.
- Provide assistance to the Form and Space Studio Manager and Faculty during class sessions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with maintaining Environmental Health and Safety compliance, enforcing EHS policies, modeling safe studio practices, and generally ensuring safety.
- Provide technical support to students in the Form and Space Studio.
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining equipment in the Form and Space Studio.
- Enforce studio policies and demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of equipment, tools, materials, techniques, and processes in the Form and Space Studio.
- Help maintain supplies for the Form and Space Studio by communicating with the Studio Manager.
- Share research to enhance the Form and Space Studio and classes held therein.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Practical working experience with sculptural processes and techniques for digital and mechanical tools and equipment.
- Good mechanical sensibility.
- Ability to assess and troubleshoot digital and mechanical tools and equipment.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate with students and faculty.
- Good communication skills.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Art or a four-year degree with experience working in a fabrication/sculpture studio shop.
- Demonstrated experience with fabrication safety and operating woodworking equipment and processes.
- Required to lift, pull, and carry up to 45 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience working with, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of general woodworking equipment.
- Demonstrated experience working as a technician in a sculpture/fabrication shop, preferably in an academic environment.
Experience working with the following:
- Woodworking equipment including bandsaw, drill press, stationary sander, as well as portable power hand tools, drill, sanders, jigsaw.
- Skills in plaster casting and mold making.
- Skills in digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers and small-scale CNC routers.
- Skills in digital fabrication software and/or sewing machines.

- Required to perform deep cleaning and disinfecting of shop equipment and tools.
