POSITION PURPOSE
Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the Monitor Tech provides surveillance of telemetry monitors throughout the hospital. Performs accurate EKG rhythm interpretation and other electrocardiography functions that support the healthcare team in delivering high quality care. Provides notification to appropriate nursing staff when telemetry monitor changes are noted. Serves as a patient advocate within the health care system. Maintains adequate unit stock and equipment inventories, provides clerical support related to patient care. Demonstrates understanding of the philosophy and objectives; adheres to policies and procedures of the department and organization.

- Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic central monitoring station, documenting per established procedure; interprets ECG rhythms, recognizes significant ECG events.
- Escalates significant or life-threatening changes immediately, utilizing appropriate ECG algorithm, to a Registered Nurse, as appropriate; communicates information in a clear, concise and accurate manner to the responsible individual within established timeframe.
- Obtains rhythm strips per hospital cardiac telemetry procedure; measures, analyzes and documents findings.
- Operates, cleans and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system; accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
- Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system.
- Participates in teamwork by responding positively to requests for assistance.
- Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
- Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement programs.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
- Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
- Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: One year of experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: none required; current C.N.A certification, EMT-B or EMT-I preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent: sitting & reaching.
Occasional: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, & kneeling.
Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is mostly inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature. Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens
