What will you do as a PMC RN Lead?
The Registered Nurse (RN) Lead provides skilled nursing services to patients under the direction of a professional medical doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant, and provides a variety of related services to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. The functions of the Registered Nurse Lead are to collect patient health data, analyze the data to determine diagnoses, identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient, develop a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain the expected outcomes, implement the interventions identified in the plan of care, and evaluate the patient’s progress toward attainment of the outcomes, working collaboratively with the healthcare team. Performs professional nursing work of considerable difficulty including the care of patients as outlined by physicians and the objectives and policies of the organization.
A day in the life of a PMC RN Lead may include:
- Works within scope of license, develop and implement nursing plan of care for patients. Communicate the plan of care to patients as prescribed by physician: test results, scheduling of specialized tests and treatment modalities, prescription drug instructions and other patient education including procedures and/or disease processes.
- Obtains, reviews, verifies and/or complete health care forms related to home health care, referrals, medical equipment and other patient/physician needs as appropriate.
- Help maintain patient flow and workflow. Work collaboratively as a team member of the clinic staff to provide a high quality and efficient service to patients and clinic.
- Recognizes patient rights and provides for confidentiality of patient information and for dignity through own performance and in relationship with others.
- Collaborates with other disciplines; promotes and supports research activities; and utilizes available resources to provide and improve patient care.
- Participates in medical staff meetings as required.
- Participates in quality improvement team efforts, including meetings to discuss quality assurance improvement initiatives.
- Observes patients and reports changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and takes any necessary action.
- Measures and records patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
- Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Identifies and/or communicates any safety issues for the clinical equipment, building, follows-up to ensure completion.
- Assists physicians with examination and procedures as necessary.
- Maintains patient areas and working spaces in a clean, neat and orderly manner. Monitors use of supplies/medications; restocks as necessary and informs appropriate persons of needs for additional supplies.
- This position may be assigned to special projects or accountabilities when other priorities are identified.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Acts as a resource and preceptor to new and current clinical staff.
- Completes clinical schedules in collaboration with Nursing Supervisor.
- Assures all clinical areas are adequately staffed in collaboration with Nursing Supervisor.
- Assist with interviewing process in collaboration with Nursing Supervisor.
- Ensures clinical staff are up to date with education requirements (BLS, ACLS, EKG certifications, core competencies).
- Ensures all code carts are assigned and checked in accordance with the guidelines/requirements.
- Dedicated to leading PMC’s cardiology department-based council meetings (bi-monthly).
- Supports manager/supervisors with consistent communication to peers on initiatives that affect scope of work, i.e. staffing vacancies, planning for staff, and that this is aligned with leadership messaging.
- Supports a success orientated, patient centered, accountable environment to peers on clinical care workflows, including new workflows, or concepts developed by the team and leadership.
- Acts on the front line to elevate patient concerns or issues, reporting concerns to leadership as required.
- Encourage staff to report near misses to Nursing Supervisor and inform supervisor of nature of near misses when staff indicate they have occurred.
- Assists nurse supervisor in preparing for meetings, (staff, section, accreditation) if necessary and as requested.
Qualifications
Education (Including Licenses and Certifications):
- Licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- BLS/CPR certification required. ACLS/PALS is required in specialty areas as determined by accrediting bodies (Cardiology, Infusion, Rheumatology Infusion, CT & GI Endo).
Experience:
- Experience working with an EMR system preferred.
- Two years of clinical/ambulatory nursing experience preferred.
Shift: Day Shift (Monday through Friday) no weekends or holidays
Pay Type: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
