Job Description:
ABOUT THE DEGREE
The PhD in Psychology, concentration in Integral Transpersonal Psychology (PITP) and concentration in Somatic Psychology (PSOM) is an online, research-oriented degree that seeks to advance a transformative psychology of the whole person. Dedicated to inquiry and writing about the lived experience of being human, including the spiritual, cultural, mystical, precognitive, and body, students engage in research using many methods (qualitative, embodied, integral, art-based, hermeneutic, mixed methods). We train students in the origins of transpersonal and somatic psychology, while making them aware of current trends, issues, and challenges within the fields.
Our degree is designed for working professionals--entrepreneurs seeking to ground themselves in scholarship, practitioners looking to deepen their knowledge to further contribute to their field, individuals with a desire to expand their horizons or shift their careers. The core curriculum overviews many whole-person approaches to psychology, while aiding students in development of scholarly and research skills. In PITP, students undertake core curriculum in Transpersonal Psychology and take twelve elective units in support of potential dissertation work and/or professional development. In PSOM, students take a required Somatic Psychology curriculum and have three elective units.
We welcome applications from scholars in all areas of transpersonal psychology and/or scholarship in transpersonal and somatic psychology, but those with research or teaching experience in research design, ecopsychology, science and spirituality, liberation psychology, BIPOC and gender psychology, social justice in transpersonal psychology are encouraged to apply. We are very interested in candidates who have strong graduate teaching and research experience in transpersonal psychology and/or have experience in both transpersonal and somatic psychology. We are looking to hire a faculty member at the assistant or associate professor level but will also review qualified applicants at any level interested in a full-time or .5 (50%) appointment.
Our program offers two five-day intensives (fall and spring semesters) and applicants should be prepared to participate in them, onsite in Fall semester and virtually in spring. PITP and PSOM faculty are distance programs and faculty can work remotely (except for attendance in-person intensives). PITP and PSOM are primarily an asynchronous online PhD. We'll also give preference to applicants who have successfully taught online.
