Responsibilities
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Principal Environmental Specialist to join our Ecology group in Parsippany, New Jersey. This position provides excellent growth opportunity for candidates to work with a team of diverse professionals on a variety of projects in the public and private sector. The ideal candidate will have 12+ years of experience in:
- Manage project/task budgets and deadlines
- Managing complex environmental projects
- Prepare environmental permits in New Jersey/New York
- Prepare proposals and project budgets; assist with marketing and Business Development
- Lead wetland field investigations, delineations and functional value assessments.
- Lead threatened and endangered floral and faunal habitat assessments and targeted species surveys.
- Prepare technical studies and reports.
- Prepare wetland and ecological permit applications in accordance with Federal and state requirements with emphasis on New York and New Jersey regulations.
- Prepare NEPA and NJ Executive Order 215 EIS, EA and CED documents
- Compile scope and fee for projects and or tasks
- Assign tasks, communicate task expectations, and track status of assigned tasks
- Complete project tasks within deadlines and work within allotted project budgets.
- Responsible for QA/QC process.
- Monitor and manage project finances monthly.
- Assist with mentoring junior environmental staff
- Market NV5 environmental capabilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, ecology, botany, wildlife management, natural resources, or related field.
- 12+ years of relevant experience.
- Certified Wildlife Biologist or Professional Wetland Scientist preferred, but not required.
- Strong northeastern flora and fauna identification skills.
- Applicants must be capable of leading wetland delineations.
- Applicants should be able to lead threatened and endangered species habitat assessments and targeted surveys.
- Experience with US Army Corps of Engineers, New Jersey and New York permitting.
- Experience working on NYDOT and NJDOT projects preferable.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Experience in managing junior staff, tasks and projects
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license prior to employment
NV5 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k) and professional development/advancement opportunities.
The pay range for this New York position is $80,000- $100,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
