Job Summary
The Family Support Specialist/Visitation Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of visitation, parenting workshops, independent living classes, and family support services to the Heights Suburban Collaborative Program participants. This role collaborates with the program team to assure that opportunities are provided for meeting the environmental and psychosocial needs of individuals and families. Manages a caseload for young adults transitioning out of foster care. Coordinates the provision of necessary services by community service providers. Maintains the primary core relationship with the program participants while completing Parenting Workshops, Independent Living Classes, and Supervised Visitations.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, family & consumer studies, or related field required.
- Two years’ experience in social services. LSW preferred.
- This is a part-time position. Must be available to work flexible hours, which includes evenings and weekends.
- Must have working knowledge of the stages of individual growth and development and family dynamics.
- Must have a valid driver’s license in the State of Ohio.
- Monitors Supervised Visitation Program, track progress, and complete visitation notes.
- Works closely with the Program Manager to monitor visitation staff productivity.
- Ensure visitation documentation is complete and entered into the database system.
- Completes client intake documentation to ensure clients are properly enrolled in the program.
- Provides a variety of service functions, including assessment, planning, monitoring, advocacy, resource referral and linkage, for participants in parenting workshops, independent living classes, and supervised visitations.
- Provides direct services to individuals, groups, and families who manifest a wide spectrum of presenting problems. Establishes a good working rapport; obtains information from clients and supplementary sources to formulate an assessment and individualized plan for follow-up.
- Facilitates active parenting workshops to assist parents in increasing their parenting skills and Independent Living Classes to assist young adults formerly in foster care with increasing life skills to live independently. Workshops and Independent Living Classes will be utilizing evidence-based curriculums.
- Assists Program Manager with statistics and data mandated by the program to meet all required program standards.
- Provides status updates to staff and Program Manager on case assignments and maintains protocols for timely service delivery.
- Collaborates with Program Manager and Program Director (when applicable) to organize workflow.
- Performs administrative tasks related to the job, including timely completion of records, forms, and reports.
- Responds to DCFS Team Decision Making Meetings (TDM’s), serving as an advocate for families who may be at risk of involvement with Child Protective Services.
- Serves as lead administrator when Program Manager is not available.
Other Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Must be able to identify suspected child abuse or neglect and report as a mandated reporter.
