GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
DePaul Community Health Centers operates eleven Federally Qualified Health Centers in the Greater New Orleans area. DCHC is committed to improving the health status of our community and to continue a long tradition of service in this market. DCHC is seeking a full-time Infectious Disease Physician to provide medical care and therapeutic management of acute and chronic illness in a clinic setting. The Infectious Disease Physician will diagnose and treat patients with infectious diseases, in inpatient and outpatient settings, including providing a full range of acute and chronic infectious disease care. Acquire and examine patient clinical history, perform physical examination, choose, order and perform appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret results. Consult with physicians, nurses, patients and patients’ families concerning treatment and care and transmission risks, prophylaxis and precautions. Refer cases to specialists as indicated, maintaining continuity of care. Provide medical direction to healthcare staff. Various administrative duties and participate in committees. Maintain patient records according to hospital policies and procedures. Provide appropriate and timely education for Medical Staff and hospital staff.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
- Assumes overall responsibility for patients receiving care in the Clinic.
- Works in tandem with other departments to ensure a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Conducts histories, physical exams and prescribes medical treatment.
- Develops treatment plans in collaboration with patients, as well as educates and advises patients on medical issues.
- Provides referrals, both internally and externally, to appropriate medical resource or specialty.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of medical care and monitors progress of patients.
- Identifies emergencies, and provides care within the legal scope of practice.
- Participates in the incident/occurrence reporting process, being mindful of risk management and mitigation, quality, compliance and client relationships.
- Use electronic medical records.
- The position requires going through lab reports, signing off on documents (consultation reports, radiological reports, prior authorizations) and prescription renewal.
- Collaborative relationship with mid-level providers.
- Perform consultations for primary care and employee wellness.
- Act as advisor for administration regarding Infectious Disease team, vaccines, antibiotic stewardship, employee safety, outbreaks.
- Primary patients include ambulatory HIV, PrEP, STI, Hep B/C, TB, RPR.
- Clinical representative for Ryan White Programs.
- Oversee clinical services under Ryan White.
- Participate in ID research.
- Participates in community outreach and speaking engagements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Lifting, twisting, standing, bending and some activities that involve running for long periods of time will occur.
- 90% of work will require some sort of physical activity to be performed.
- Employee will be required to travel from time to time and must be willing to work various shifts to accommodate needs of various sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. According to the special event type, some work may be performed outside with varying temperatures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited University and active State Medical Board license.
- Board Certification in Infectious Disease.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana.
- Must have current state and federal DEA certification.
- Current Certification in Basic Life Support for healthcare providers, Advanced Cardiac Life support may also be required based on scope of services.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three years of Infectious Disease experience in a community healthcare clinic setting.
