Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory TechnicianLocation: Yuma, CO
Duration: 13 Weeks with possible contract to hire

Description:Certified / Registration with ASCP, NCA, NEW or equivalent registry.
Able to coordinate testing procedures and clinical data with medical staff for the Laboratory Department.
Must have phlebotomy experience.
Have excellent verbal and written skills in English to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel. Bilingual is a plus.
The duties of the Medical Technologist will be successfully performed when:
- Integration of current scientific knowledge with technical competency in the Laboratory department.
- Demonstrates knowledge and responsibility and participates in the implementation of all aspects of the Safety/Chemical hygiene plan, Infectious/Exposure control plan, Electrical Safety, Disaster plan, Fire plan, and Compliance and Ethics policies.
- The ability to perform EKGs, phlebotomies, therapeutic phlebotomies, arterial and capillary collections for specimen procurement with knowledge of age-related techniques, physical structure, and amounts of blood to be obtained.
- Clarifies physician’s orders and answers questions about orders, specimens, and results.
- Maintains standards in routine, timed, and STAT testing, demonstrating the ability to set priorities.
- Shares weekend and daily on-call hours with other staff technologists.
- Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment and practices and supports safety in the workplace.
- Prepares and monitors quality control charts, instrument function checks, and instrument maintenance protocols to guarantee quality, consistency, and integrity of results while using QA tools to recognize and report any hazards.
- Demonstrates competency in the knowledge of the delivery of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Understands the needs of others in relation to laboratory operations; uses good judgment when responding to their requests.
- Follows proper procedure when laboratory equipment is not functioning properly.
- Follows through with any incomplete procedures to ensure continuity of care.
- Correlates results with diagnosis and each other, and questions all incompatible results.
- Demonstrates broad knowledge of all laboratory departments.
- Ensures preventive maintenance performed is documented.
- Demonstrates the knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors.
- Protects the patient in the event of a medical/health care error and, as appropriate, assists in medical/health care error resolution.
