Shift/Schedule: Tuesday 7:15 AM - 4:30 PM - Providence, RI / Wednesday 7:15 AM - 4:30 PM - Swansea, MA
**This position will be providing support to our MOHS surgery team in Providence, RI and Swansea, MA**
Compensation: Competitive Hourly rate (based on experience) paid biweekly plus part-time benefits package
Position Overview:
The Histotechnician is crucial in supporting the Mohs surgeon by assisting with the grossing of specimens, as well as processing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue samples. Additionally, the Histotechnician is responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring the cleanliness of the laboratory environment. Other duties to be performed as a Medical Assistant to our dermatology physicians, include rooming patients, updating all components of the patient’s medical history, documenting reason for visit and history of present illness. Assists the physician with office procedures including, but not limited to, biopsies, surgeries, and treatments for various skin conditions.

- Technical Proficiency: Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and understanding of histology, laboratory techniques, and quality control.
- Tissue Processing: Efficiently embed, cut, stain, and mount tissue specimens in accordance with established policies, procedures, and laboratory standards.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with superiors, peers, physicians, and patients.
- Organizational Skills: Maintain strong organizational skills and proficiency in computer applications.
- Attendance: Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Educational Requirements:
- Associate degree in chemical or biological sciences or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- Completion of 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution, including:
- 24 semester hours in medical laboratory technology courses, OR
- 24 semester hours in science courses, comprising 6 semester hours in chemistry, 6 semester hours in biology, and 12 semester hours in any combination of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Mohs procedures.
- Dermatology Medical Assistant experience preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL, ASCP) or Histotechnician (HT, ASCP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications.
