Schedule: Full Time Nights 7 PM – 7 AM, 36 hours per week, Every other weekend and rotating holidays
Location: Baystate Medical Center, 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield
Summary: Flex Team PCTs will function in a supportive role to a registered nurse and work collaboratively with the health care team to manage patient care. This position on the Flex Team allows the applicant to gain experience in providing care to a diverse patient population; Flex Team PCTs will float to multiple units in both the adult and children's hospitals based on patient census and staffing needs. Flex Team PCTs report to the Clinical Manager but daily activities will be coordinated by the RN. PCTs will perform direct patient care (hygiene, skin care, mobility, and assistance with elimination needs), obtain and record vital signs, collect laboratory specimens, document intake/output, communicate effectively with patients/staff, promote patient safety and function as a team member within the health system. Adherence to the system and department compliance policies and any and all applicable laws and regulations are mandatory. Management has the right to change or add to the job responsibilities at any time.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides age-appropriate care to patients by demonstrating knowledge of developmental stages for the following age groups and applying developmental theories and concepts when implementing care for patients.
- Monitors basic physiological parameters, including taking and recording routine vital signs within the specified timeframe, obtaining and documenting weights/heights, and consistently reporting any significant deviations in vital signs.
- Administers treatments and procedures in accordance with BMC policy/procedure.
- Assists patients with the elimination of body wastes.
- Performs POC testing.
- Assists in the delivery of ancillary services as directed.
- Communicates effectively with team, patients, and family.
- Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures.
- Functions as a member of the team by assisting team members with clinical activities.
- Competencies and completion and maintenance of clinical recognition program for career ladder level.
Required Work Experience: 1 year of hospital experience
Preferred Work Experience: PCT experience with both adults and children
Qualifications:
- CPR-Basic Life Support of Healthcare Provider required from the American Heart Association
- Patient Care Experience
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certification preferred
- Every other holiday and weekend commitment
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment a MUST.
Education: GED or HiSET
Certifications: Basic Life Support – American Heart Association, Certified Nurse Aide – Other
