Summary:
A Computed Tomography Technologist performs CT procedures and related clerical functions at a level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Demonstrates ability and performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnosis. In addition to primary job duties of a CT Technologist, may also be required to perform Radiologic Procedures (X-Ray).
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION - Graduate of an Approved School of Radiologic Technology
- Current Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists - Radiological Technologist Registry (ARRT) (R). Must maintain this primary registration at all times to be eligible for certification and registration
- If a newly hired candidate is not already ARRT Certified as a CT Technologist, the applicant must successfully complete assigned Basics of CT education 3 to 6 months post hire
EXPERIENCE - 1 year of experience as a staff technologist
- Previous CT experience preferred
CREDENTIALS - New York State License as a "General Radiologic Technologist" and current New York State Department of Health certificate of registration as a Radiologic Technologist.
- Within 18 months Post-Hire: Associate must obtain Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists - Computed Tomography Registry (ARRT) (CT) for all associates hired after 9/26/2023
- The following workflow is highly recommended for the CT technologist to be successful in passing the ARRT CT examination within the 18 month timeframe:
- As soon as technologists begins working independently, they should start documenting their cases in preparation to take the ARRT exam
- 6-12 months post hire, the technologist should study for the ARRT exam. It is highly recommended that the technologist complete the additional modules which CH provided to study for the ARRT examination. During this timeframe, the CT technologist should work closely and consult with the Lead technologist to receive guidance on preparing for the ARRT examination. The lead Technologists should mentor new technologists
- The technologist should attempt the ARRT exam the first time around the 12 month post hire timeframe. This will allow the technologist plenty of time to attempt the ARRT exam a minimum of 3 attempts if needed
- If the technologist has made an attempt to follow the timeline above or there are extenuating circumstances which may have caused the technologist to be unsuccessful achieving CT accreditation, extensions maybe granted on a case-by-case basis
- Certified to inject with NYSDOH within 90 days
- BLS required within 90 days
