Position Summary Performs follow-up insurance billing and makes collections calls to patients. Includes
verifying accuracy and completeness of claims and contacts insurance companies in regard to expediting payments from various payers for physicianâs services. Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Contact patients by telephone to collect on outstanding balances.Â
- Contact patients at home or alternative phone numbers to collect payment in full, set up payment plan, settlement of account arrangements, and obtain insurance information.Â
- Communicate and educate patients on insurance plans, explain insurance payments, facilitate patientÂcontact with insurance companies to explain benefits and/or appeal for payment.Â
- Update insurance information and all associated financial classes, and verify eligibility through all availableÂsystems (over 25 insurance websites, BJH system, online eligibility system, etc.).Â
- Transfer payments on patientsâ accounts, correct contractual adjustments, and pre screen patients forÂpossible Financial Assistance/Charity.Â
- Skip trace to find current patient address and phone numbers for billing purposes.
- Update demographic information.Â
- Working knowledge on how to process special billing, work release, homeless, workerâs compensation, andÂrisk management accounts.
- Attention to detail, organizing follow-up telephone calls, insurance filling, and following Self Pay policies areÂkey factors.
- Answer in-coming calls with superior customer service skills in responding to patient needs.
- Demonstrate customer service skills and establish a clear understanding of the patients account andÂresponsibility for payment.Â
- Collect payment in full, set up payment plan, settlement of account arrangements, and obtain insuranceÂinformation.Â
- May fill in or and/or assist other collection unit employees and other duties as assigned. Some faceÂto face contact with patients required.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of computers, general office equipment, telephone console, medical terminology, collection techniques and communication skills that involve dealing with confidential information.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
- Two to three years of related experience in bookkeeping/accounting and/or medical collection setting.
Grade C06-H Salary Range $17.34 - $25.40 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
