RN duties include inserting IVs, accessing ports, monitoring CT contrast administration, contacting patients regarding the pregnancy policy/questionnaire and appointment instructions, navigating Radiology patients, patient follow-up, participation in community outreach, etc.
The Nurse Navigator uses advanced nursing processes in decision-making, patient assessment, data analysis, development and implementation of methods and systems to improve the overall quality and efficiency of patient care for the designated department and population served. The Interventional Radiology Nurse Navigator will assist in coordination of care for patients with radiology needs at Carilion Clinic. Under administrative oversight, the Nurse Navigator will collaborate with the multidisciplinary teams at Carilion Clinic including all areas of Radiology, referring practice offices, pre-surgical testing, as well as outside offices and facilities to navigate identified patients through the pre-surgical evaluation, required testing, and follow up. The Interventional Radiology Nurse Navigator will provide patient education and help lead comprehensive conferences with the multidisciplinary teams. Provides direct patient care in the outpatient clinic and indirect patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings; oversees the delivery of patient care; and provides day to day management of programs to coordinate radiology related patient care as designated by the department. Coordinates the delivery of safe, high quality patient care; identifies areas for study; and participates in and/or supports research. Works in compliance with all State, Federal, and other regulatory requirements. Serves as a resource and mentor to staff and team members. Performs daily review of outstanding labs and radiology reports, and reports discrepancies to the Radiology healthcare team to follow up. Contacts patients to instruct on appropriate follow up and coordinates care throughout.

Attempts regular contact with patients and provides service recovery by assisting with arranging appropriate follow up care and complaint resolution. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the Ambulatory/Inpatient clinical information systems for documentation of the content of telephone encounters and generating daily reports. Provides a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, clinical staff and colleagues. Builds strong relationships and team cohesiveness, focuses on quality and positive solutions, communicates respectfully, demonstrates compassion and understanding in response to patient/customer needs. Adheres to customer service standards, and patient confidentiality policies. Maintains a positive working relationship and effective communication with patients, health care providers, clinic personnel, management and other employees to ensure interactions are professional in manner, and promote a positive image for Carilion.
What We Require:
Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing required.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Nursing required; 5 years experience preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia required. AHA BLS-HCP required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Proven ability to understand medical terminology, problem solving and handle stressful situation with a professional manner. Good team dynamic skills in order to facilitate change and achievement of defined outcomes. Must be able to work with minimal amount of supervision. Demonstrates a positive demeanor, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a professional appearance and approach. Excellent organizational ability, and initiative. Must have the ability to problem-solve and communicate with a wide variety of people in an effective manner. Able to work independently with minimal direction, prioritize and meet timelines. Must exhibit skills to utilize automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Keyboarding skills required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
