WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Therapist I/II to serve in Trauma Services in Behavioral Health and Crisis Services.
The therapist I/II provides individual, group, couples, and family therapy to survivors (adult and children) of crime to include sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and human/labor trafficking.
- The therapist provides crisis intervention/counseling.
- The therapist assesses and screens cases for ongoing needs to include psychiatric consultation and referrals for basic needs.
- This therapist serves as a liaison with MCPS school clusters to provide outreach and ongoing services to MCPS students who are crime victims.
- The therapist I/II also provides case management services to individuals on their caseload as well as those walking into the program to be screened for services.
- Therapist supervises a team of volunteers who provide 24/7 outreach services in hospitals and police stations.
- The therapist may be assigned cases working with both court ordered survivors and female offenders of the abuse intervention program.
- This position may provide services to clients at schools and or college campuses.
- The therapist coordinates with Trauma Services victim assistants in cases with criminal justice involvement or crime victim compensation issues.
- The therapist maintains all records per HIPAA, VAWA, VOCA and FPSA standards of confidentiality and thoroughly documents all contacts.
- This position requires knowledge of collecting statistics and grant reporting.
- English/Spanish Multilingual is preferred.
- This position can be under filled as a Therapist I.
Minimum Requirements
Therapist I:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, nursing, or a related behavioral science field.
Experience: None
LICENSE REQUIREMENT: One of the following licenses, issued by the State of Maryland, must be held prior to appointment, and maintained by the employee: • Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW); • Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC); • Licensed Graduate Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LGADC); or • Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT).
Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement. Possession and maintenance at all times of a: Valid Class C (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence when required for job-related duties.
Therapist II:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, nursing, or a related behavioral science field.
Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience rendering therapeutic counseling, social work, nursing or psychology services, as pertinent to one’s professional licensing.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT: One of the following licenses, issued by the State of Maryland, must be held prior to appointment of, and maintained by, the employee: • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC); • Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapy (LCMFT); • Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC); • Licensed Certified Social Worker/Clinical (LCSW-C); • Licensed Registered Nurse in the United States, certified as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland; or • Licensed Psychologist.

Interview Preference Criteria
- Experience providing psychosocial assessments, counseling/therapy, and case management services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and general crimes.
- Experience working with children and or mandated clients.
- Experience working with individuals/families experiencing both mental health & environmental crisis.
- Ability to be flexible, work required evenings.
- Ability to provide services in multiple locations.
- Ability to work in a collaborative and coordinated environment with Criminal Justice agencies and other HHS and non-profit agencies.
- Ability to collect statistical data for monthly/quarterly reporting.
