Title: Program Nutritionist – Office of Aging & Disabled Services
Reports To: Division Manager, Nutrition Services
Function: Works with and supports the nutrition meal sites along with working in cooperation with Office staff, other county staff, grantees, and other agencies.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Nutritional Sciences, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Home Economics with an emphasis on nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Community Dietetics or Dietetics AND
Certifications: Must possesses a current and valid Certification as a Registered Dietician / Registered Dietetic Technician issued by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Skills and Experience:
Will be required to learn to utilize various computer programs: SAMS, Word, Excel for example.
Must be organized and self-motivated.
Ability to carry out recurring assignments independently and in accord with established procedures, policies.
Ability to develop and maintain effective work relations with supervisors, co-workers, and grantees.
Work to promote a healthy work environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license
- To become a SHIP trained counselor within the first year of employment based on available training dates.
- Required to pass NJ State Certified Food Manager Test every 5 years and other food sanitation tests (i.e ServSafe)
Responsibilities:
- Visit all meal sites monthly
- Assist meal sites at special events
- Responsible for back up to other various tasks within the Division
- Participates in the planning of programs designed to meet the needs of the elderly
- Represents the Office at meeting and events
- Prepare clear, sound, accurate information for PowerPoints and presentation materials
- Ability to provide advice and technical assistance
- Maintains the essential records and files
- Interprets and transmits current scientific information regarding food, nutrition, diet, and health to the public
- Plans, arranges, and conducts educational programs dealing with nutrition for the public
- Selects and/or develops, evaluates, and updates nutrition education program materials
- Gives group/individual instructions on subjects such as food preparation, food purchasing, food handling, food economics, mealtime psychology and nutrition
- Develops nutrition program aids and nutritional related materials
- Acts as a resource for people requesting nutritional advice
- Plans and certifies menus in accord with state/federal nutrition policy requirements and regulations regarding preparation of meals for program participants
- Ensures that persons handling/preparing/serving food practice hygienic food handling techniques
- Supervises & trains staff to ensure in compliance with state & federal requirements
- Ensure food service operations are conducted according to state & local health department standards
- Creates, implements, and evaluates quality assurance initiatives and develops response plans to ensure ongoing quality improvement
- Assist with SHIP related questions as needed
- Perform all other responsibilities as assigned
