Position Summary
Plans, coordinates and oversees the activities of the radiation oncology department, including directly supervising radiation therapists, nursing and clerical staff, as well as volunteers and student interns. Works collaboratively with the radiation oncology team, including radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists and Information Systems staff to ensure the provision of high quality radiation therapy care consistent with state and national regulations and accreditation guidelines. Working with the patient care team to provide accurate ionizing radiation treatment to patients according to physicians' prescriptions. Chief Therapist oversees treatment simulation, mold room procedures, treatment delivery, and all aspects of patient care. Oversees department flow, department billing, operation within budget, scheduling and supervision of radiation oncology staff. Facilitates team building and works collaboratively with Radiation Oncology and HRCC staff.
Primary Position Responsibilities
- Chief Therapist shall be in compliance with the position responsibilities of a staff therapist at all times. (refer to Staff Therapist position responsibilities).
- Compiles and distributes daily/monthly reports (patient and operating) in a timely manner.
- Supervise, direct and evaluate therapists in the proper procedures in simulating and treatment of patients.
- Manages staff therapists daily scheduling and annual Hunterdon Healthcare System required events.
- Supervise, oversee and directs Weekly Chart rounds (Global and Departmental).
- Troubleshoots and problem solves effectively and efficiently. Communicates appropriate issues to the Administrative Director.
- Responsible for overall fiscal management of the department, planning for future implementation of new trends and technology, policy maintenance and development, patient and employee satisfaction, and quality assessment/improvement initiatives for the department.
- Chief Therapist shall be an active member of the Cancer Care Committee, Breast Team, and Radiation Safety Committee involving quality improvement and assurance initiatives.
- Provides and maintains good communications and relationship management.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the healthcare environment and continues professional development.
- Provides leadership and ongoing supervision of staff.
- Demonstrates professionalism to ensure good customer service.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, radiation therapy, nursing or related field
Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):
Required:
Three (3) years experience in oncology or related healthcare areas
Preferred:
Previous management experience in radiation oncology; experience in radiation oncology billing and coding; experience with cancer program accreditation guidelines.
License, Registry or Certification:
Required:
New Jersey DEP License (Radiation Therapy), ARRT-Certified and CPR-Certified
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong math skills; excellent computer and information systems skills. Knowledge of patient immobilization devices, dual energy linear accelerators, CT treatment simulator, mold room equipment/tools, electronic test/QA equipment.
Preferred:
Knowledge of Mosaiq EMR and oncology coding and billing strongly preferred. American College of Radiation Oncology accreditation process and standards.
