The Mammography Clinical Lead is responsible and accountable for the maintenance and quality of patient care at Carolina Surgical Care Breast Center throughout the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to Service Excellence Standards and Expectations at Carolina Surgical Care Breast Center/CRMG.
- Exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.

- Works as a member of a quality team to continuously improve work quality.
- Performs visual preventative safety inspections and reports dangerous department or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Utilizes all assigned functions of the Radiology Information Computer System.
- Develops and maintains an efficient work assignment to minimize patient waiting time and maximize patient throughput.
- Uses schedule to maximum efficiency, maintains patient flow and scheduling add-ons.
- Confirms patient identification prior to procedure by verbal confirmation.
- Implements and maintains all MQSA requirements to perform mammography while becoming an FDA certified Breast Center coupled with an American College of Radiology accredited facility in mammography.
- Implements and maintains all stereotactic requirements to become an American College of Surgeons accredited Breast Center.
- Periodically reviews images to ensure good quality and if necessary works with radiologists to improve image quality.
- Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Participates in the annual FDA, ACR, and ACS inspection.
- Reviews the FDA and ACR guidelines and implements changes in our procedures as needed.
- Performs quality control of the FSA, ACR, and ACS in accordance with guidelines on a daily, weekly, monthly, biannual, and annual basis.
- Follows up letters to patients for mammography and stereotactic breast biopsies, including Birads coding, tracking of infections, hematomas, cancers, upgrades, concordance, and repeat biopsies as mandated by the ACR, ACS, and MQSA.
- Keeps accurate documentation of technologist and physician credentials and compliance with FDA, ACR, and ACS guidelines for procedures performed and continuing education requirements for mammography and stereotactic breast biopsies.
- Stays current in breast imaging modalities and breast intervention devices.
- Evaluates and helps in the installation of new equipment.
- Practices radiation safety according to department policies.
- Follows NRC and State regulations for radiation safety and keeps exposure 'ALARA'.
- Standardizes the procedures and works closely with the surgeons and radiologists.
- Utilizes hospital computer system to enter radiology and laboratory orders, charges, or credits.
- Reviews patients' charts for confirmation of physician's orders and follows written and/or verbal protocols and instructions.
- Coordinates equipment preventive maintenance and calls service engineer as needed for the mammography machine and Fischer table.
- Orders and stocks the mammography and stereotactic room assuring the par levels are maintained while staying in the established expense budget.
- Educates patients and families regarding exam, treatment, and outcome.
- Creates and develops specific modality protocols for mammography and stereotactic breast biopsies according to the ACR, ACS, and MQSA requirements.
- Reviews any requests for new procedures and determines the profitability of the request.
- Community involvement to promote the Breast Center Services and cancer awareness.
- Reviews and revises policies and procedures as needed at the breast center to ensure compliance.
- Presents self in a positive manner as reflected by personal attire and etiquette.

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: Successful completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Experience: 5+ years mammography experience is required.
Applicant must be ARRT registered, Mammography registered, and BLS certified or certification required within 6 months.
