WHY CO-OP / INTERN WITH US
A successful Co-op or Intern will learn how to assess risk at construction projects while supporting the continued development of injury prevention initiatives. Experienced, successful Co-ops and Interns will have the opportunity to manage safety projects from inception through closeout, under the guidance of the Safety Specialist. As a Co-op or Intern, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our project's success. This is a paid position.
WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR A MCKENNEY'S INTERN
Students must be at least a sophomore, junior, or senior enrolled at an accredited school majoring in Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Public Health, or equivalent.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work alongside Safety Specialist and Safety managers to help project safety efforts
- Regularly review and analyze safety data for significant trends and support efforts in communicating those trends and lessons learned with the business
- Support root cause analysis of incidents related to injuries and near misses
- Walk job sites with safety team to learn about construction workflow, identify hazards, and survey for adherence to safety values
- Support department initiatives as directed by the supervisor
- Assist in responding to project-related safety inquiries by PMs, APMs, and Field Leaders
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software
- Detail oriented
- Understanding of customer service skills

- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of staff including Field leaders, PMs, APMs, crew, fabrication shops, etc.
- Ability to use your influence and personal savvy to build trust and relationships
- A genuine passion for identifying and correcting risk to help ensure McK workers go home the same way they came into work
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
- Excellent problem-solving ability
- Attention to detail while completing multiple or repetitive tasks with a high sense of urgency
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed while managing your priorities
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS
- Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and loud noises.
- The work environment involves some exposure to construction-related hazards or physical risks, which require following McKenney's safety protocols.
- Light physical effort. Requires handling average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and some standing or walking.
- Work requires local travel to job sites and customer locations.
