Job Summary:
Perinatal Sonographer - performs high risk diagnostic obstetrical sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Assists with specialty procedures. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations (anatomy scans, Growth, Biophysical profile, Dopplers, assist in amniocentesis).
- Performs ultrasound exams according to AIUM protocols.
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
- Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate clinician.
- Able to work unsupervised and perform exams independently.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
- Assists with daily operations of the sonographic laboratory.
- Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area and maintains adequate supplies.
- Gathers appropriate laboratory results and completes laboratory requests.
- Reviews patients' medical records to obtain identifying information required for perinatology, instructs patients in preparing for examination, and explains procedures to be performed.
- Weekend coverage at affiliated hospitals (portables).
- Obtains vitals, schedules follow-up appointments.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- Prepares preliminary reports.
- Assists Perinatologist in procedures (Amniocentesis) and provides diagnostic aid by conducting supporting Sonography scans to include Ultrasound Guided Biopsy procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years experience in obstetric ultrasound.
Education
- Graduate of AMA approved Ultrasonography Program.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Nuchal Translucency Certification Certificate.
- Reg Diagnostic Med Sonographer Fetal Echocardiography Certification within 12 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn.
Additional Requirements:
- Basic PC (keyboarding & navigation) skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years experience in Ultrasonography.
- Customer service aptitude demonstrated through Customer Service Assessment preferred.
Notes:
- Travel to contracted hospitals to complete ultrasound scans.
