Behavioral Health Therapist Crisis PRN Overnight
Badlands Human Service Center – Dickinson, ND – Behavioral Health Therapist - Crisis
This is a temporary Emergency Services Night shift position. This position is eligible for a 23% Crisis pay add on.
Be part of the solution to the behavioral health crisis. As a team member for ND Department of Health & Human Services, you will ensure the most vulnerable have access to a high-quality healthcare system in which prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover.
In this Emergency Services position, you will conduct crisis stabilization or therapeutic intervention, provide supportive therapy to mitigate crisis situations, develop safety plans for individuals at risk, and assist individuals in obtaining appropriate services, either within or outside the agency. You will also coordinate social detox/crisis residential placements and admissions to the North Dakota State Hospital. This position also provides support to the other regions as needed via telehealth platforms.

Additionally, you will need to be comfortable providing services in homes and communities, as most services are provided in those locations. A minimum of one shift per month is required, with opportunity for multiple shifts weekly. Travel is a norm with this position.
To be considered for this position, you are required to have a master’s degree in social work, counseling, or areas approved by the North Dakota Board of Counseling Examiners and ND licensure as a LCSW or LPCC, OR a Doctorate in Psychology and ND licensure as a Psychologist by the ND Board of Psychologist Examiners.
- If unable to find fully licensed candidates, will consider filling this position as a Human Relations Counselor, which requires a master’s degree in social work and licensure as a LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) by the ND Board of Social Work Examiners; OR a master’s degree in counseling and licensure as a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) by the ND Board of Counselor Examiners. Will also consider those with a master’s degree in counseling and licensure as a LAPC, if the applicant is far enough along with the process to obtain their LPCC within two years from the date of hire. Information outlining where you are in the licensure process and the number of training hours already obtained must be submitted with the application form.
- If unable to find masters-level candidates, will consider those with licensure as a Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker (LBSW) by the North Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners (NDCC 43-41); and two years of professional human services work experience as a social worker, human relations counselor, developmental disabilities case manager, mental illness case manager, vocational rehabilitation counselor, activity therapist, addiction counselor, registered nurse, employment counselor, or a similar professional level position in the public or private sector.
- If unable to find fully licensed candidates, will consider filling this position as a Skills Trainer- BMod, which requires a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, child development and family science, or communication disorders; OR a bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields and two years of related work experience, in the respective discipline.
This position requires a valid driver’s license and successful completion of the assigned defensive driving course during new-hire orientation.
