Job Description
General Summary
The Endoscopy Reprocessing Technician will coordinate the daily activities associated with the care and
handling, to include maintenance of flexible endoscopes used by in the Endoscopy Center. This includes, but not limited to, decontamination, inspection, testing, packing, high level disinfection and/or sterilization repair tracking, documentation, storage and distribution. This incumbent will also serve as an expert advisor to CS leadership in regard to endoscope reprocessing by staying current with industry best practices, standards and regulations. Great customer service and critical thinking skills are required for interaction with customers and co-workers.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Reviews daily operating room schedule to ensure adequate coverage and resources to meet endoscope reprocessing needs. Responsible for ensuring an adequate inventory of disposable supplies are available for production activities.
- Reprocesses endoscopes according to manufacturer’s IFUs; SGNA, AORN, and CDC standards/recommendations.
- Performs annual competency validation for the CS staff who are assigned endoscope reprocessing tasks and supports staff education for scope reprocessing: Ensures adherence to documentation requirements for compliance to regulatory standards.
- Coordinates ad manages repairs and loaners with Biomedical Engineering; ensures repairs are documented and expedited; following up and notifying the appropriate clinical practitioners in reference to scope availability.
- Is competent on the operations of all production equipment and technology used for reprocessing medical devices. This includes washers, sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, incubators and instrument tracking system.
- May perform technician duties as required during staffing shortages, increased work load and/or to expedite priority assignments.
- Maintains appropriate certification and keeps abreast of industry changes to include regulatory and best practices. Conducts a minimum of two annual in-services in reference to practice updates.
- May assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Ambulatory Manager in the development of departmental procedures and policies in reference to endoscope reprocessing.

- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Three (3) years’ experience in Central Service required, will consider applicable experience in operating room setting on a one-for-one equivalent.
- CS technician certification from IAHCSMMM or CBSPD is preferred.
- Certified as an Endoscope Reprocessor is preferred OR ability to obtain certification within twelve months from date of hire or transfer into the position.
- Proficient in using instrument tracking software.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, supplies and a basic knowledge of computers and computer office software programs preferred.
