Overview
This is a per-diem position, primarily onsite at the Marcus Institute, Roslindale, MA. The research professional will work with and under the direction of the Principal Investigator to conduct a Nutrition and Aging Research Study. Responsibilities include working a few hours each day primarily to process biological samples. Additional responsibilities will include recruiting, consenting, and enrolling study participants into the studies, completing data collection, maintaining an inventory of study equipment, supplies, and resources, and data tracking.
The position requires a strong ability to communicate effectively with older adults and a high comfort level for working in a fast-paced environment with other collaborators. Candidates must have the ability to work on multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet study deadlines. A college degree in a scientific discipline or 2-3 years related experience is preferred, although lesser experience may be considered based on an individual’s other qualifications.
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with others, carry out research activities of the Nutrition and Aging Studies.
- Conduct the research study: process biological samples, assist the Research Associate with recruiting and consenting participants, administering questionnaires, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Complete other aspects of the research including maintenance of the inventory of study equipment, supplies, and resources, and data tracking.
- Collect and process biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, feces).
- Use professional concepts in accordance with organization objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
- The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position such as completing special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- College degree in a scientific discipline or 2-3 years related lab experience preferred, although lesser experience would be considered.
- Must be comfortable collecting and processing biological samples.
- Highly detail-oriented with superb organizational skills.
- Must have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, develop streamlined workflows, and meet study deadlines.
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team, and have good problem-solving skills.
- Must have a high level of computer literacy and demonstrated knowledge using Word, Excel, and Access.
- Must demonstrate respect and professionalism regarding subjects’ rights, individual needs, and a working knowledge of HIPAA Protected Health Information regulations.
- Must demonstrate flexibility in regards to competing project demands and changing priorities, adapting to schedule changes, coverage gaps, and unanticipated study needs.
- Must be a “people person,” friendly and comfortable working with study participants, older adults, and members of the study team.
- Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented.
