Summary:
Manages the operations, distributive services, and technology of the Pharmacy Department at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. Is responsible to the System Director of Pharmacy Services for management of overall department purchasing, inventory management, regulatory compliance, drug distribution and optimization of technology and workflow. Incumbent proceeds at his/her own discretion in areas of defined responsibility, within the limits established by the System Director of Pharmacy Services and Catholic Health (CH) policy in making routine decisions on matters having direct bearing on areas of responsibility. As a member of the pharmacy management team, the Pharmacy Operations Manager participates in the planning, development, implementation, and coordination of distributive and operational initiatives. The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible to the System Director of Pharmacy for management of personnel practicing within his/her area of responsibility. The Pharmacy Operations Manager will work closely with the Pharmacy Manager and System Director of Pharmacy, regularly and frequently communicating the status of services and the methods, procedures and personnel by which goals and objectives are being attained. Obtains approval from the System Director of Pharmacy for any deviations from established objectives, policies and non-routine situations.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION- Bachelor degree from accredited college or university required; Health Science related preferred.
EXPERIENCE- Minimum 5 years of experience in Hospital or Institutional Pharmacy practice that includes work as a pharmacy technician and/or support of pharmacy operations in areas such as technology and/or purchasing.
- Knowledge and experience in operation of pharmacy technology such as automated dispensing cabinets (e.g. Pyxis), various label programs, drug repackaging systems, inventory management (e.g. Pyxis Logistics).
- Demonstrated experience in following areas preferred:
- Technology driven program and service development.
- Program and service line implementation, monitoring and maintenance.
- Quality Assurance/Patient Safety oversight and management.
- Supervision of personnel.
- Budget planning and execution.
- Hiring and evaluation of personnel.
- Medication use evaluation.
- Knowledge of pharmacy purchasing and inventory management.
- Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY- Ability to operate the following machinery: Personal computer, laminar flow hood, biological hood, compounding devices, telephone, fax machine, hospital computer systems, copy machine, prescription balance, automated medication dispensing machines.

WORKING CONDITIONS- Travel to various locations for meetings; work unusual hours, days and shifts to accommodate needs of the Pharmacy Department.
