This is a float job that requires a clean driving record. All locations are within 25 miles of each other.
Position Overview: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
- Updating patient information.
- Collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures.
- Properly explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understanding all physicians' orders.
- Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test orders.
- Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Packaging specimens for transport and storing sample specimens according to required temperatures.
- Placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling, and following procedures outlined by specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attending annual department training.
- Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
