Description
The Assistant Principal of Culture & Community Wellness will be responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive school culture, while also overseeing the implementation of restorative practices to address conflict resolution and build strong relationships within the school community. This position will manage a team of dedicated professionals, including counselors, social workers, and a family and community engagement specialist, to ensure a holistic approach to student well-being and success.
This position’s primary responsibility is to lead the implementation and monitoring of school culture and community wellness aligned to Kindezi Schools network mission and goals. Its secondary responsibility is to collaborate and support the execution of instruction initiatives.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schoolwide Culture
- Lead the development and implementation of a school-wide culture plan for a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment in alignment with network goals. This plan will establish routines, expectations, and a criteria for a positive learning environment for both students and staff.
- Responsible for creating and implementing or turn keying staff professional development that is aligned with school-wide culture plan, network goals, and builds staff capacity in the areas of basic community building and classroom management skills as needed.
- Responsible for creating and implementing or turnkeying family/partner capacity building sessions that are in alignment with the school-wide culture plan and network goals.
- Responsible for creating and managing systems of accountability to monitor the school-wide culture plan.
- Collaborate with school leadership to create a strategic plan for promoting cultural competency and consistent social-emotional learning (SEL) implementation and integration.
- Oversee the implementation of restorative practices, including training staff and students, facilitating circles, and monitoring effectiveness.
- Oversee student discipline and ensure compliance with Atlanta Public Schools, Georgia Department of Education, and policies of any other applicable governing bodies, while guided by our equity commitments.
- Ensure accurate documentation and timely communication of disciplinary infractions and response.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
Team Management
- Provide direct supervision and support to counselors, social workers, and the family and community engagement specialist.
- Provide direct supervision and support to culture team members and contracted culture support staff (ie. Hands on Atlanta).
- Collaborate with admin and teachers to create schedules for culture team members that support a positive culture of learning and increase engagement during academic instruction and small group breakouts.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities for your team.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment that promotes communication and the achievement of shared goals.
Data & Assessment
- Collect and analyze data related to school culture, climate, and restorative practices, including attendance.
- Use data to identify areas of strength and need, and continuously collaborate with the leadership team and student support services to improve school-wide initiatives.
- Report findings and recommendations to school leadership and stakeholders.
Other Responsibilities
- Assist with crisis intervention and collaborate with student support services (SELT, MTSS Coordinator, etc.).
- Develop and manage communication plans to keep staff, families, and the community informed about school culture initiatives.
- Stay up-to-date on best practices in school culture, restorative practices, and social-emotional learning.
- Support instruction as a secondary responsibility to school culture duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be a United States citizen or otherwise have authorization to work in the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education (2.5+ GPA) required; Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (preferred).
- Ability to pass an Atlanta Public Schools background check.
- Have deep knowledge of standards/Common Core shifts and how they relate to curriculum and assessments.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Certification in Educational Leadership by GaPSC preferred.
- Must have or be able to obtain a GaPSC-issued clearance certificate.
- Clear and renewable teacher certification with GaPSC or eligible for reciprocity.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Experience raising academic achievement in urban/high needs schools preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a school setting, with a demonstrated track record of success in building a positive school culture.
- Extensive knowledge of restorative practices and its application in a school environment.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to supervise a team of professionals, build capacity and implement systems of accountability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
- Commitment to social justice and equity.
